'The Dramatic Universe' is an introduction to a few of the more fascinating aspects of the universe. It looks at the rotation of the earth and its movement around the sun and around the galaxy, explaining why the dinosaurs lived on the other side of the galaxy. It then goes on to the Milky Way's upcoming collision with the Andromeda Galaxy, but points out that the sun will have become a red giant and swallowed the earth by that time anyway. It then goes into some of the more interesting aspects of the history and future of the earth and the sun, before discussing the fact that Betelgeuse is ready any day to go supernova. It examines the details and mechanism of the supernova exposion and the mind-boggling properties of the resulting neutron star. Finally it introduces the idea of black holes resulting from the supernova explosions of very massive stars. |
